RHS Tatton Park Show Garden

Whilst being students at Reaseheath College we were invited to help out with their show garden at R.H.S Tatton Park. The theme was the “secret garden” the famous children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett which celebrated it’s centenary year in 2011.

The aim was to create a small magical swatch of the walled garden to transport visitors at the R.H.S Flower Show Tatton Park to a secret garden nurtured by children. The gateway is clothed with ivy, the grass leads to the concealed entrance and the exciting decorative borders are hidden within.

There is a blend of manicured perennials intermingled with naturalised native species, beautiful architectural detailing can be seen created using traditional techniques and reclaimed materials.

We started with a basic square plot.

Here the footings are being prepared ready to erect the towering wall that will conceal the secret garden.

Here the team are in the early stages of groundwork, paths are being dug out and borders put in and the trees have been put in.

Disclaimer – Please note that “the secret garden” design and build was the sole idea of Reaseheath College and Gardens of Distinction were invited as part of a larger team of volunteers from the Horticulture department.
